Beyond Borders Sri Lanka is a voluntary youth-led, youth-run organisation. We work to foster greater mutual understanding, sharpening youth awareness on both identity and diversity, while developing an understanding of active global citizenship by providing a platform for young people to actively express themselves on a range of issues. In a nutshell, we are a group of activists for social change.
A summary of what we have done can be found here.
Our experiments with theatre for development (Forum Theatre) have become a key element of our particular blend of activism. Currently we are working on projects related to peace and governance, Forum Theatre and citizenship education. We also regularly host youth forums on various issues because we feel talking about issues are a good way to understand & respond to them. Some of the recent involvements of our individual members and the team can be found here.
Currently we are looking for
Actors, Scriptwriters, Emcees and Researchers for a year long Forum Theater project funded by the U.S Department of State. No previous experience is needed, just a passion for social change and a liking for theater!
Would be teachers and trainers to help out with LEARN, a teaching project we are doing along with the Warehouse project.
Lawyers/people interested in Law and politics to help out with constitution.lk, a website dedicated to simplifying Sri Lanka’s constitution for lay people.
We are accepting applications for Forum Theater until the 17th of November 2011, but we will consider all applications on an ongoing basis for all projects.
If you want to volunteer, please send us the following;
1. Email us your CV along with your contact details at email@example.com.
2. In the body of the email please write about 300 words what you are passionate about, how you feel you will benefit from Beyond Borders and in what ways you think you can contribute. This is not a test of your writing skills. We just need to make sure that you will enjoy getting involved with BB. If you have an idea, but no idea how to implement it, you can write about that and we might provide you the platform to do so.
